The Senate of Ignatius Ajuru University of Education (IAUE) in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, has expelled a final-year student, Onyewuenyi Chiamaka Nora, following a video that spread widely on social media in which she reportedly said a lecturer was preparing her final-year research project in exchange for N150,000.
The clip, which circulated online last week, showed the student speaking about her research project. She had difficulty giving additional information about the subject and stated that her supervisor was working on it together with the projects of other students.
In a statement released on Monday, October 12, 2026, the university's Public Relations Officer, Dr Ngozi Okiridu, said the action was taken after the institution's Senate met the previous Wednesday at the Postgraduate Hall, where members examined the video's contents and the student's remarks.
According to the university, the Senate considered parts of the student's account unacceptable, in particular her description of her project topic as "Citizenship" and her claim that her supervisor was writing the project on her behalf.
The university insisted that no project topic bearing the title "Citizenship" exists in the Department of English Language and Literary Studies.
"Senate has expelled Miss Onyewuenyi Chiamaka Nora with Matriculation Number U/2022/19900, a final-year student of the Department of English and Literary Studies, over damaging content creation," the statement said.
"Recall that the said student had, in an interview that went viral, claimed that her project topic was Cotizenship' when there is no such topic as Citizenship in the Department. She also claimed that her supervisor was the one who wrote the topic project for her."
The statement further noted that the expulsion was meant to serve as a warning to other students against similar behaviour.
