Kenyan Woman Arrested After Police Say Bhang Was Hidden in Bread at Nairobi Station

A 26-year-old Kenyan woman was arrested after allegedly attempting to bring drugs to her boyfriend, who is in police custody, the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) said in a statement on Monday, September 21, 2026. Bernice Achieng arrived at Buruburu Police Station in Nairobi with a loaf of bread that had not been sealed, according to the DCI. Officers at the station's report office desk became suspicious of the package. A search revealed five rolls of bhang and a matchbox hidden inside the bread, the statement said. A subsequent search found seven additional rolls of bhang in the pocket of her jacket, bringing the total recovered to twelve rolls. The DCI said Achieng told officers she was there to see her boyfriend, a detainee at the station, and requested that they deliver the bread to him. The bread's unsealed condition raised suspicion, and the search led to the discovery of the concealed items. Achieng is now in custody, with the exhibits secured, and is expected to be arraigned.
