Ahead of Nigeria's 2027 general elections, veteran Nollywood actor Patrick Doyle has criticised opposition parties, saying they have failed to offer voters a clear alternative to the ruling party. In a social media post, Doyle said important matters concerning Nigeria's economy and political system are being pushed aside by personal attacks and ethnic rivalry. He noted that the ruling party has emphasised its claimed macroeconomic achievements and promised to build on them while ensuring the gains are felt at the microeconomic level. According to Doyle, the opposition has not thoroughly contested those economic claims and has also not set out a clear plan for Nigeria's short- and long-term future. He further faulted opposition politicians for focusing on social media content and the pursuit of FBI documents, while saying that only the ruling party had inaugurated its campaign council at the time of his post. Doyle also argued that if the ruling party wins the election, opposition parties may later accuse it of rigging, despite what he described as their inadequate preparation and campaigning.
