The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested one person after a 24-year-old man's wrist was chopped off in what police described as political violence.
Police spokesperson SP Nafiu Habib said in a statement on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, that the incident took place that day at about 11:30 a.m. He said a political argument broke out between Lawi and Usman, both from behind Isiyaka Jibrin Quarters in the Bakin Kura area of Bauchi Metropolis.
During the dispute, Habib said, Mamman Gore, who lives at the same address and is an associate of Lawi, came out with a sharp machete and cut off the wrist of Usman Idris. The victim collapsed and lost consciousness.
The statement said Usman Idris was quickly taken to Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH) in Bauchi, where he received urgent medical care. He is still admitted and is responding to treatment.
Police said the case involved political violence that caused grievous harm. According to the command, Lawi was arrested by officers of the 'A' Division Township and is in custody helping with the investigation. The main suspect, Mamman Gore, who allegedly cut off the victim's wrist, fled to an unknown place.
The command said efforts have been strengthened to find, arrest and bring the fleeing suspect to justice.
Commissioner of Police CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, mni, psc (+), strongly condemned all forms of political violence and thuggery, warning that the command will not tolerate any act that could threaten public peace and safety.
