TikTok unveiled an AI shopping assistant and a new in-app one-click checkout feature on Monday, allowing users to buy directly from brands without leaving the platform.

Shopping Assistant

The Shopping Assistant is a conversational AI agent designed to help users discover and purchase products. It understands context and remembers users' preferences and needs throughout the conversation, offering real-time guidance on product details, shipping information, sizing, availability, and help completing a purchase . By keeping users within TikTok when they have product questions, the feature also aims to prevent them from turning to outside AI tools like ChatGPT .

Buy Direct

The new checkout feature, called Buy Direct, lets users purchase directly from a brand in their For You feed with one click . The features work across the app, not only inside TikTok Shop, marking a broadening of TikTok's e-commerce approach beyond its existing marketplace .

Partnerships

TikTok said it is building these features with commerce platforms and payment providers including Salesforce, Shopify, Shoplazza, and Stripe, among others .

Strategic Context

TikTok Shop launched in the U.S. in September 2023. Market research firm eMarketer estimates it generated about $15.8 billion in U.S. sales in 2025, representing roughly 18% of all U.S. social commerce . According to TikTok's Economic Impact Report, activity on the platform helped generate $81 billion in GDP for U.S. businesses, while 54 million Americans said they purchased a product after watching a TikTok video . David Kaufman, TikTok's global head of monetization and product partnerships, said the company is "trying to move people from discovery all the way through to action, and there's a lot that we can do to bring AI to that journey" .
