NNPCL Ties N66 Per Litre Fuel Discount to Use of Its Mobile App

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited says motorists can only obtain its N66 per litre fuel discount by paying through its mobile application, a requirement that has drawn questions about accessibility. The promotion, announced by the Federal Government as a 30-day measure, has been extended through October 31, 2026.

Motorists seeking the N66 discount at Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited retail stations will have to use the company's mobile app to get it, the petroleum firm has said. The company made the announcement on its X account over the weekend. Last week, the Federal Government said it would run a 30-day reduction in fuel prices, one of the steps aimed at softening the impact of climbing fuel costs on Nigerians, especially those in commercial transport. In the message posted on X, NNPCL explained that the discount is contingent on using its application. Customers are required to download the app and complete payment at the reduced rate through it. The arrangement has prompted questions from Nigerians about how well it can work, since not every motorist owns a smartphone or is able to carry out transactions through apps. Andy Odeh, NNPC's Chief Corporate Communications Officer, said the N66-per-litre reduction offered under the Independence Anniversary promotion is the same programme as the 30-day petrol discount the federal government unveiled on October 8, 2026. He said the promotion, which had been set to run from October 1 to 7, will now continue until October 31, 2026. Odeh told Leadership that the discount was limited to the NNPC Fuel App in order to "ensure effective control, prevent abuse, and ensure the benefit reaches intended customers". He also said the programme is meant to promote broader use of the application and enhance the experience of customers.
