RJ Mitte, an actor and disability rights advocate most recognized for his portrayal of Walter “Flynn” White Jr. on Breaking Bad, has died at the age of 34, TMZ reported. A county official confirmed to the outlet that Mitte died in Texas on Monday, October 12. TMZ said it was informed that his death was by suicide, while law enforcement stated that the death investigation was still ongoing. In a statement to TMZ, Mitte’s representatives expressed profound sadness over the tragic passing of the beloved actor, philanthropist, and dedicated disability rights advocate. Mitte, who had cerebral palsy, appeared in 56 episodes of the AMC series. His representatives said that he drew on his own experience with cerebral palsy to bring authenticity to the part and used his platform to advance disability awareness and inclusion. They added that in addition to entertaining people around the world, he was an ambassador for United Cerebral Palsy and Shriners Children’s. His other screen work included The Oak Room, The Recall, and The Guardians of Justice (Will Save You!). Last week, Mitte appeared on The Joe Vulpis Podcast, where he spoke about how Breaking Bad altered his life and the close bonds he kept with castmates after the show concluded. Earlier this month, he also appeared in social media posts with former co-star Luis Moncada. Outside of acting, Mitte advocated for better representation of people with disabilities in Hollywood and backed charitable efforts. His representatives noted that he was president of The Mitte Foundation, which supports philanthropic and community initiatives, and that he used his visibility to confront stereotypes and push for greater representation for people with disabilities. They requested privacy for Mitte’s family and close ones at this time. Mitte was engaged to Kennedy Suarez. He proposed in 2025 after they had been together for several years.
