Afrobeats singer Davido has attracted widespread social media attention after he liked a video from controversial commentator VeryDarkMan (VDM) that took aim at both the musician and his uncle, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke.
The controversy stems from Governor Adeleke's appearance at an All Progressives Congress (APC) gathering in Abuja. At the event, he declared support for President Bola Tinubu's 2027 re-election effort and committed to leading the campaign in Osun State.
In the video, VDM criticized the Adeleke family and alleged political double standards. He cited Davido's old anti-APC tweets, contending that the singer's prior strong opposition to the party was an act designed to secure a local election victory. VDM also challenged Davido's credibility now that his uncle is publicly aligning with the same political figures they had previously denounced. He further claimed Davido forgets Osun State residents after elections, saying the singer pays attention to his home state mainly during election season instead of monitoring how people are living under his uncle's government.
VDM said: “You are a user. You are someone who uses your fans and your popularity to your advantage... I don't want to see you put your mouth in election matters again.”
Instead of disregarding the criticism, Davido surprised many online by liking the viral clip. The singer has not yet commented directly on VDM's remarks.
