Fayose Predicts Peter Obi Victory in Abuja for 2027, Challenges Wike

Businessman and social commentator Isaac Fayose has said that Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC), would easily secure victory in Abuja during the 2027 presidential election. Fayose made the remark on Tuesday during an appearance on News Central TV, responding to recent comments by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike. In an interview, Wike had called the 2027 contest an easy race and maintained that President Bola Tinubu would carry both Rivers State and the FCT. Fayose rejected that view, saying Abuja belongs to the NDC and to Peter Obi. He argued that the ruling party could only resort to writing results, while adding that plans were in place to stop any alleged effort to rig the election. According to Fayose, the NDC has devised strategies to prevent the election from being manipulated. He said people are prepared to vote, and that the only concern was how they might be suppressed, which he said was the area they were trying to fine-tune. Fayose also urged people to ask one or two individuals on the street who they intend to vote for. He noted that other countries conduct mock elections to gauge public opinion before the actual vote, and said Nigeria should begin doing the same. He further claimed that five APC governors were secretly working with the NDC at that time, because, in his view, Wike commands no meaningful electoral influence. In a post dated September 22, 2026, News Central TV said Fayose wants voters and agents to resist vote-buying and keep participating at polling units.
