Houston Cougars Player Accused of Assaulting Pregnant Girlfriend Who Refused Abortion Pill

A 19-year-old football player at a Texas college has been accused of physically attacking his pregnant girlfriend after she reportedly declined to take an abortion pill, KTRK reported. Carmello Brooks, a defensive lineman for the Houston Cougars, allegedly confronted Nariah Harley at his apartment on Thursday after he learned she was pregnant. During court testimony on Monday, a hearing officer said Brooks is accused of squeezing Harley’s arms, then slamming her to the ground and sitting on her to pin her down. The hearing officer also told the court that the episode happened roughly one month after Brooks had been charged with acting aggressively toward a different pregnant woman. The 275-pound student-athlete now faces charges connected to the incident involving Harley. The case has attracted public attention because of the alleged attack and Brooks’s prior charge involving a pregnant woman.
